Best EBooks to Read Next: How to Find Your Next Great Book Without Overspending

The best eBook is the one you actually want to finish. Instead of endlessly collecting discounted titles, use this simple framework to find your next read, enjoy it and keep your book budget under control.

Choose a mood before a bestseller list

  • Want something absorbing? Try a mystery or fast-moving thriller.
  • Need a relaxing evening? Browse uplifting fiction, romance or humorous memoirs.
  • Prefer to learn? Pick narrative history, popular science or practical nonfiction.
  • Returning from a reading slump? Start with a shorter novel or novella.

Read the description, then a sample chapter. Pay attention to voice, pacing and whether you want to keep turning pages. A famous book is not automatically the right book for this particular week.

Compare buying, borrowing and subscribing

Buying makes sense for a book you expect to reread or annotate. Library borrowing can reduce costs, subject to your local service’s licensing and app compatibility. Subscriptions can be good value when you read enough eligible titles to justify the fee; confirm the catalogue before paying.

A simple five-book shortlist

Make a shortlist containing one comfort read, one unfamiliar author, one series starter, one book recommended by a friend and one wildcard. Sample each before spending money. This helps keep discovery fun instead of turning reading into homework.

Check the format before checking out

eBook ownership and transfer rules differ by store. Some titles use DRM, and buying from one ecosystem does not guarantee you can open the file on a competing reader. Confirm device support, geographical availability and return terms.

Consider audio for different moments

Audiobooks can work wonderfully for walks and commutes, but the experience depends on the narrator and your ability to follow the material. Try a sample, and do not assume an eBook purchase includes an audiobook edition.

For regional book discovery, browse Kobo Books or Amazon Kindle Books. The Amazon link and the separately labelled Kobo Australia links below are affiliate links; the general Kobo Books link is a standard retailer link.

One self-help ebook to sample

If practical self-help is your preferred mood, browse You Within You by Kunal Buch →. Read the synopsis and available preview before buying; this is an option to explore rather than a guarantee that it will suit your tastes.

Compare the title in your own regional bookstore and check device compatibility. You do not need to buy a new eReader to try compatible ebooks in the Kobo app.

Store and region: these affiliate links open Kobo Australia and show Australian-dollar prices. Its ebook store requires an Australian address to shop. Singapore and Malaysia readers should compare their local options first. Check device delivery eligibility, warranty and total cost; switching regions may change availability and affiliate tracking.

Affiliate disclosure: BooksAvenue may earn a commission on eligible purchases through these Kobo Australia links, at no extra cost to you. Prices and availability can change.
