Google Books is more than a place to preview books before buying them.

How it works
It lets readers search digitized works by title, author and subject. Some books, particularly older public-domain editions, can be viewed in full. Search for the title you want, open a matching edition and check whether full reading or downloading is available. You may also encounter limited previews that are not free full books.

What we like
Its searchable collection is particularly useful for older nonfiction, historical publications and comparing editions.
What to know before using it
A search result is not a promise of free access. Verify that the edition says full view or offers a permitted download.
BooksAvenue’s verdict
A useful free-reading resource for the right reader. Check available formats, account requirements and any local lending or copyright conditions before starting.
